Mental Health Awareness Training for
First Responders

Mental Health Awareness Training for First Responders is training first responders – public safety, fire, and EMS personnel – across Alabama to respond to adults with serious mental illness. Project Support is a five-year project that focuses on training individuals to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental disorders and how to appropriately respond. The project will establish linkages with community-based mental health agencies for referral, train first responders to employ crisis de-escalation techniques, and education individuals about resources that are available in the community for those in need of services. The project will utilize the evidenced based Mental Health First Aid program to increase mental health awareness among the first responder population.
