Odds are Alabama is a year-long campaign begun by a number of statewide organizations to combat the fentanyl epidemic, and we need your help. We’re encouraging all healthcare providers, businesses, civic organizations, etc., to use the contents of this toolkit to spread the word statewide. We’ve provided sample graphics and welcome any other ideas you might have. You can send them to jgaines@alaha.org.
We’re extremely fortunate to have grant funding from VitAL for the paid promotions, as well as ongoing marketing assistance, and the in-kind work produced by Scout Branding Company in developing the campaign brand, concepts and graphics.
Here’s how you can help:
-
Share the social media posts VitAL is posting on Facebook and Instagram
Click this link to access the graphics and the dates they will be posted. Please mark your calendars for those dates so you can watch for the VitAL postings and share them. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
-
Help us spread the messages through other means
Think of other ways to share the messages. Some of you may have already purchased ads for this year and might be willing to insert a few of the Odds Are Alabama ads in your slots. We can provide graphics for posters, digital billboards, digital promotions at sporting events, digital boards on buses (city buses and those used on college campuses). If you find the opportunity, you can email cmdye1@ua.edu to ask for the graphics. Be sure to provide the dimensions and any other information needed.
- Find people willing to share their real-life stories
-
Take flyers to your next civic meeting and talk about the effort
Click to download a flyer about the campaign and take to your next rotary meeting, choir practice, or any other large gathering. The more we share about the campaign and the accompanying website and its resources, the better. You should also take with you this Naloxone flyer to provide information on this free opioid overdose reversal medication.
March 13, 2023 – Odds are…if you buy pills or other illicit drugs online or from a dealer, they will be laced with a deadly dose of Fentanyl. According to a 2022 United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) laboratory study, six out of 10 fake pills seized contained a potentially lethal dose of Fentanyl. These were some of the facts highlighted today by several statewide organizations announcing the launch of “Odds Are Alabama,” a year-long campaign to bring awareness to Alabamians on the dangers and prevalence of illicit Fentanyl.
Support was provided by the following concerned organizations:
Alabama Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics
Alabama Chapter of the College of Emergency Physicians
Alabama Department of Mental Health
Alabama Department of Public Health
Alabama Hospital Association
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama
Jefferson County Department of Health
Medical Association of the State of Alabama
